Grand Hotel Royal Viareggio

The hotel has lots of character and lovely Art Deco features in traditional style. All the staff are welcoming and helpful and attentive to guests needs. We stayed half board, with everything you could want for breakfast but the evening meals were exceptional. The menu changes daily and throughout our 2 week stay there were very few duplicates so don’t think I’ll have that another night if something takes your fancy as it might not reappear. The cocktail bar is also a treat and the head barman attentive. We had a front room with a sea view but ask for an upper floor as we couldn’t see the sea from the room we were allocated on the first floor but we got another room when we asked. Rooms don’t necessarily have balconies either. We don’t normally return to a resort/hotel but I’ve already recommended this hotel to friends and family as we had a really lovely holiday here. I gave sleep quality 4 as air conditioning was a bit noisy.

My Wife & I have just spent a week at the Grand Hotel Royal in Viareggio. A very apt title - it was just that. We were half board. Breakfast was well adequate. Dinner was served in an open sided marquee within the gardens. There was a wide choice of food, well prepared and perfectly served. The weather was wonderful and so was our stay.

Just got home from a wonderful week here the hotel is very grand. Spotlessly clean with 5 star service breakfast was plentiful and a fabulous evening meal if you opt for the half board. A special thanks to Serena on reception who helped make our anniversary stay very special with flowers and a bottle of wine in our room. Pool was excellent no problem getting a sun bed and reasonably priced drinks. Overall I would thoroughly recommend this hotel especially for couples you will not be disappointed.

this hotel was a joy to stay in. room was large and comfortable . staff throughout the hotel were excellent. the food and overall dining experience was first class. the pool and cocktail bar were well run and drinks were reasonable for such a lovely hotel.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal during the first two weeks in September. We highly recommend this hotel for its facilities, excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is situated in the middle of the main promenade and is convenient for all of the attractions

This hotel was presumably a grand residence but our room did not convert well for holiday accommodation. It was comfortable enough. the public rooms were traditional and gracious.The bathroom was small and we found the corner shower most unsatisfactory, not much room and a dodgy door. The food was excellent, the breakfasts were different, most enjoyable. Dinner, outdoors, was first class, a good way to end the day. The airport bus stopped outside the hotel and it also went to Pisa, as did another bus which went to Lucca. The railway station was 20 mins walk away from which one could travel further afield. Buses are cheap, air conditioned and really good fun. If you like beach life this coast is fantastic, great facilities.

My husband & I recently spent a week here, (our first holiday without children), and had a truly wonderful stay. The hotel is grand in style, but it's charm lies with it's welcoming staff, and excellent, and understated, service. This is a hotel where guests return year on year, and I can see why. Long standing staff members have become familiar faces to their regular customers, and greet them with genuine warmth. It was lovely to see Italian grandparents bringing their grandchildren, probably returning to the hotel where they have spent many holidays over the preceding years. It has a very comfortable feel, welcoming all ages and family groups, or couples, and visitors from across the world. The room was spacious and beautifully cool, which was much appreciated after hot & lengthy sightseeing trips, and the pool area was just perfect for relaxing. We loved the option of sun or shade here, and the pretty garden area, which added to the tranquil feel. The location is perfect - indeed, the hotel is a landmark building on the promenade - so easy to stroll out and explore the beach bars & shops just a few steps away. A big bonus for us was the accessibility of the train station. A 20 minute, level, walk, away from the hotel, allowing quick travel to numerous locations. We visited Pisa, Florence and Lucca, and found the trains frequent, clean & cheaper than the UK (despite the poor exchange rate!). Lucca was probably our favourite, being a shorter, more manageable, trip than Florence, and less well known than Pisa. Plenty of pretty trattorias in the Piazza, and good shops for a range of local produce. Our package (booked with Jet2), was Half Board, so we were able to take advantage of the extensive buffet breakfast, and the excellent evening meal. All dishes were consistently good, but the fish choices were exceptional. Overall, a fabulous week away, and a great place to stay.
