Playa De Fornells Holidays

Show on Map

A tucked-away bayside resort with a little sandy beach and a gorgeous harbour in nearby Fornells.

The easy life

Playas de Fornells is a peaceful family resort on the bay of Cala Tirant. The secluded beach nearest the town is joined by Cala Tirant next door, a sweeping bend of sand backed by dunes and bushes. The hills that surround the bay are dotted with apartments and hotels, and from up here you can see across the Mediterranean.

Twinned with Fornells village

It’s about 5 minutes’ drive to Fornells, an old fishing village that’s now a modern holiday hotspot. Seafood is king at the restaurants around the pretty harbour, so this makes a great lunch stop. Plus, it’s a short walk from Fornells to the Torre de Fornells, a 19th-century watchtower that offers 360° views from the island itself to the wide-open Med.

Insider Tip

Playas De Fornells is nestled in the bay of Cala Tirant on Menorca’s northern coastline. Both of the island’s major cities – Mahón and Ciudadela de Menorca – are 30 minutes’ drive away, as is Menorca’s international airport.

Best beaches

Take a spot on the resort’s beach, a quiet sandy strip that’s hemmed in by rocks on the both sides. The shallow, crystal-clear waters are great for kids. Head to the bigger Cala Tirant beach for more space and perfect conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. It’s just a short walk from the resort along a coastal walking path.

Top sights

See the ruins of the 16th-century Castell de Sant Anton, right in the heart of Fornells village. See the original walls and tour underground rooms. Get an incredible view of Menorca’s northern mountains and the Mediterranean sea from the Torre de Fornells. This 19th-century watchtower is about 10 minutes’ walk from the harbour in Fornells.

Out and about

Play a round of 18 holes at the Son Parc golf course. The island’s only golf course is about 15 minutes’ drive away, and you can play any day of the year. Explore the clear waters on a scuba diving trip from Fornells. Or try out windsurfing or kitesurfing at Cala Tirant beach, the perfect spot for taking to the waves.

Eating and drinking

Enjoy a laidback meal at the Kaktus and Okapi bars in the middle of the resort. Or head to Fornells harbour to sample the freshest seafood on the island. Restaurants serve island specialities like fried squid and calderata de langosta, a lobster stew. Mix it up with visits to Spanish tapas restaurants, as well as grill and barbecue places.

Shopping

Stock up on the essentials at supermarkets in Fornells. Pick up local crafts and jewellery at the night markets along the harbour, held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer. Or go further afield to the Thursday market in Es Mercadal, just 15 minutes’ drive away, and find artisan keepsakes and fresh produce.

Nightlife

Enjoy a quiet drink at the laidback bars in Playa De Fornells itself. Head to the harbour in Fornells for bars with outdoor seating, perfect for taking in the view of the Mediterranean and watching boats bobbing on the water. For a livelier club and bar scene, jump in a taxi to Mahón.
