Have your best holidays in Benidorm!

Holidays in Benidorm have got real star quality – and that’s not just because of the famous TV series! Yes, ITV’s Benidorm has helped to capture the interest of an entirely new audience about the resort’s delights. But when you arrive you’ll soon realise that the real allure of holidays in Benidorm lies in the fact it offers brilliant value and amazing attractions.

The starring attractions of Benidorm

The sheer number of activities and attractions in Benidorm is staggering. There are four huge theme parks all less than a few miles away, with the biggest, Terra Mitica, rivalling the best in Europe. Activities are often very family friendly, with fun and educational trips to zoos and aquariums always on the cards. Scenic sights lie within the resort itself at the Balcon de Meditteraneo, whilst the Waterfalls of Algar (also as seen on TV’s Benidorm) make for a stunning watery paradise just ten miles away.

Benidorm has been neatly divided into five separate districts each with their own unique atmosphere. For instance, Levante is a top place for British bars and restaurants, plus it boasts the biggest beach in the resort. Poniente is a little quieter and as such is ideally suited to families and couples, whereas the Old Town (also known as El Castell) is the place to go to experience a little more authentic Spanish culture at the local tapas bars here. The newer area of Rincon de Loix is where you’ll find a choice of hotels such as the Deloix Aquacentre from our Family Favourites range, as well as favourite attractions such as Benidorm Palace (a top entertainment spot) and the bustling indoor market.

And what great entertainment you’ll find during holidays in Benidorm! Cabaret Clubs are dotted around the entire resort, with many being completely free. When you add this to the fact that drinks and meals are heavily discounted with special offers to tempt you in, you’ll realise that cheap holidays in Benidorm are always a possibility.

“Terramittica theme park is a must but go after 6pm there are no queues.”

So much to see, so much to do, on holidays in Benidorm

Wow, where do we start when it comes to activities and attractions during holidays in Benidorm? Benidorm has been known for great value entertainment (such as free cabaret acts) since the sixties, but it’s massively moved on since then. It’s now a thoroughly modern resort with everything nearby, including a huge theme park, quirky museums, beautiful churches, aquariums, zoos, golf courses and even natural scenic wonders. Phew! How many other package holidays can claim to have that many attractions within easy reach?

So we’ll start with the large attractions first. You’ll notice on your holidays in Benidorm that nothing is done by halves. That’s why instead of just being satisfied with one large attraction, Benidorm actually has four! The main, massive theme park on the outskirts of Benidorm is called Terra Mitica. Separated into the themed sections of the ancient civilisations of Rome, Iberia, Egypt and Greece, there are incredible rides and rollercoasters here with some reaching top speeds of 60mph! And even if you don’t feel up to the challenge of the riding the rollercoasters, there’s still plenty here to entertain you, with more than 35 live acrobatic and theatrical shows taking place every day.

Next, another huge attraction, MundoMar, is based in the Rincon de Loix area of Benidorm. This sea life centre has daily dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows, while the monkeys, flamingos and penguins get plenty of attention too. And if seeing the dolphins enjoying all those gallons of cool water makes you feel like splashing around too, Aqualandia should be the next attraction on your list.  Set amongst leafy landscaped gardens just 3 miles from the centre of Benidorm, Aqualandia is one of the largest waterparks in the world. It has more than 15 slides and rides covering an area of 150,000 square metres.

Do those three parks sound like fun? Well best of all, if you book all inclusive holidays for 1st June – 30th September 2012 at the Hotel Palm Beach Benidorm with Jet2holidays, we’ll give you unlimited entrance to all three attractions!

And it doesn’t stop there! Terra Natura is a huge zoo that boasts over 1,500 animals from 200 different species. The unique concept here is that many of the animals are only enclosed by protective glass, meaning you can get up close for great photos with no bars in the way. The zoo is actually split into four themed areas, America, Asia, Pangea and Europe according to where the animals come from. Your ticket represents the kind of great value to be expected on cheap holidays in Benidorm as it also includes entry to the waterpark within the grounds of the zoo.

In fact, as popular that holidays to Benidorm are, there’s ample opportunity to discover unexpected activities and attractions. The Wax Museum is always a tourist favourite, but it’s a rather quirky take on the usual waxworks you may expect to see, as figures range from Elvis to Charlie Chaplin and even fictional characters. Sightseeing is also at its best in Benidorm Old Town, it has a more authentic character than the rest of the resort and you can also visit the white-washed, blue-domed Church of San Jaime. The fairytale castle named Castillo Conde de Alfaz also fits onto this list. Visit the colourful orange towers topped by red peaked spires and you can enjoy a fun medieval theme night which also includes a banquet fit for a king. The night includes horse riding and jousting performances, and there’s even a disco afterwards too.

Plus, you may have seen the Waterfalls of Algar featured on the Benidorm TV series, but it’s definitely better to see them in person! Around 10 miles from Benidorm in Callosa d’en Sarria; the cascading water flowing amongst moss-covered rocks into a glittering turquoise pool is an enchanting sight. You can even swim in the waterfall pools too.

“If you get a chance try to visit Mundomar in Benidorm.  It is well worth a visit and a great day out.”

“Visit the waterfalls of Algar, near Benidorm. Swim in crystal clear, cool mountain water. Just the thing in the hot spanish sun.”

Superb value British home cooking and unique Spanish treats

Holidays in Benidorm are brilliant when it comes to eating out because there’s so much choice. Here’s an amazing fact – there are over 1,000 restaurants in Benidorm! So as you can imagine, everyone’s tastes are catered for.

If full English Breakfasts available all day sounds like a top treat to you, then you’ll love the Levante area. It’s here that many of the British-owned bars and restaurants are found, where tasty pub grub like pie and chips is on almost every corner. And whilst there’s ample opportunity to get stuck in to bangers and mash or juicy steaks, another even more pleasing part of eating out is the price. Cooked breakfasts start from as low as two euros and three course meals can be had for less than a tenner.

But you don’t just have to have British food on your holidays in Benidorm, there are lots of restaurants that serve the takeaway classics we’ve come to know and love. Chinese, Indian and Italian restaurants are dotted around throughout the resort, so you could just as easily find your favourite curry or pizza for an amazingly cheap price.

For a more authentic eating experience, many of the best Spanish restaurants in Benidorm are to be found in the Old Town. The tapas bars here are a genuine delight, plus as tapas is served as smaller dishes (where you order two to three each) it’s the best cuisine for sharing! One more thing, look out for the ‘Menu del Dia’ advertised outside many restaurants. These set-menu deals are often fantastic value and usually include three courses and a drink for a very low price.

Maybe you’d prefer to save yourself the trouble of looking for restaurants every evening? Hotels in Benidorm offer a range of board options, from self catering at the Paraiso 10 Apartments to all inclusive holidays in Benidorm at the Marconfort Flamingo Benidorm, and lots more hotels ranging from 2* to 5*.

Huge stretches of golden coastline

There are three main beaches in Benidorm, including two huge arcs of golden sand that seemingly stretch for miles. The enduring image of Benidorm is often of the photographs angled at Levante Beach. This is the image you’re also likely to see when you arrive for your holidays in Benidorm – it’s a curve of glittering sand and emerald water dominated by the Manhattan-like skyscraper skyline above. It’s no wonder that Benidorm is often nicknamed ‘BeniYork’! But back to the beach itself – Levante stretches for over 2km and is incredibly wide too, so even at its most popular in the summer holidays it never seems too crowded.

The two largest beaches in Benidorm are named after the areas they are closest to, so Levante Beach is by the Levante district, whilst Poniente Beach is at the coast of Poniente. These two lengthy shores are only split by a peaked rock and a small harbour, so the sand you can expect on both is much the same soft, golden variety. Poniente is also very wide but it’s often preferred by families and couples because it’s a tad quieter than the ever-popular Levante. Poniente has also enjoyed a recent renovation in the form of a multi-million euro promenade and a boardwalk to assist disabled beachgoers.

Mal Pas is the tiny cove between the two beach behemoths of Levante and Poniente. It’s only 120m long, but for a complete change of scenery you could always choose to do your sunbathing here. High sided stone and palm trees encircle the beach, and it sits close to the Old Town and its grand church of San Jaime.

“Visit the wonderful beaches in Benidorm.”

Never-ending entertainment on holidays in Benidorm

You’ll be blown away by the range of entertainment on offer during holidays in Benidorm! Brilliantly, the resort has still upheld the great value tradition of free cabaret acts (often starting at 9pm). So as you only pay for the cost of your drinks it’s entirely possible to have a very cheap night out.

The variety of entertainment shows is simply staggering. Within just a few streets you’ll come across clubs headlining comedians, clowns, ventriloquists, dancers, singers, tribute acts, drag acts and live bands. Plus, if you’d like to start a little entertainment yourself there are many karaoke bars dotted across the resort.

And did we mention that the drinks are very cheap too? There are over 800 bars in Benidorm, with many of them vying for your attention by offering extra long happy hours, discounted drinks and 2 for 1 deals. British bars and pubs are in abundance, so you won’t have a problem picking out a top drinking spot. Lots of bars have a range of facilities to tempt you in, from pool tables and dartboards to huge widescreen TVs playing the latest sports. Many openly welcome families too.

But whilst holidays in Benidorm offer a great choice of cheap drinks and family focused bars, the resort actually has a fantastic clubbing scene too. The focal point for nightlife is known as The Square, which features lively nightspots such as Bar Kya. The famed Club Ku attracts many famous DJs over the summer while the Hippodrome has a raucous atmosphere playing club classics to an energetic crowd.
