Budapest’s Summer Festivities Leave Everything Else in the Shade

You do not have a minute to waste in Budapest this summer. Each year in the Hungarian capital, a summer-long programme of carnivals, dances and events is especially tailored to make the most of the warm season and to celebrate Hungarian art and culture. 

A varied and packed agenda features world renowned pop and classical performers, but the festival celebrations are not confined to the Varosmajor and Margaret Island Open-air Stages. Local artisans and artists also flood the city with their art, music and traditional food, and there truly is something for the whole family to enjoy.

An Extravaganza

The festival kicks off in grand style on June 8th with an opening concert by the world-famous Budafoki Dohnányi Orchestra performing a selection of iconic film scores and soundtracks, accompanied by scenes from the films themselves.

Through July and into August the festival continues with nights of exotic fusion dancing, pop concerts and folk culture and music. The centrepiece of the festival comes on July 26th with Zorba, an open-air ballet extravaganza featuring a symphony orchestra, choir and a cast of over 300 dancers.
