Porto Santa Maria

First time my wife and I have stayed in Maderia and this hotel was in a very good location very near to restaurants, and attractions. Hotel was very clean, beds were exceptional! we liked the idea of the small kitchenette, as this gave you options on eating and it was very well stocked. I would recommend the hotel. We tried the hotel restaurant for dinner on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent, we had B&B and breakfast had plenty of choices. A hidden gem was the 3rd floor terrace. We would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Lovely hotel, excellent location for wandering in to Funchal, So many lovely places to eat on the door step. Excellent choice of breakfast to be enjoyed indoor or on the terrace, Clean comfortable hotel. Pool bar provided simple but tasty lunches . We were here to celebrate a big birthday and special Anniversary, and were not disappointed. Staff went the extra mile to make our stay special, helping to organise a Birthday cake which was delivered to the room and gifting a bottle of Wine to the room on both occasions. Have stayed at other Porto bay hotels in Funchal and this one did not disappoint. Lovely place to relax or as a base for walking and sight seeing. Only room for improvement, sun beds were a bit tired!

This was the 2nd time we've stayed at this hotel. It's very relaxed and the rooms are of excellent quality. The hotel is located in the Old Town just a few yards from multiple restaurants and a number of bars. It's also less than a 5 minute walk to the cable car entrance and is at one end of a long promenade which gives you a nice walk towards the New Town. I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Fantastic location. Great breakfast. Quite large room but at back of hotel with no view at all except of roofs. However, as we were out most of the day it didnt matter too much. Would definitely use again.

Super hotel comfortable clean and friendly perfect location in lively resort close to many great restaurants, close to cable car for access tropical gardens not to be missed. Happy hour is a must great value and social evening

Very good hotel very friendly and helpful staff well situated . Courtesy coach very usefull for accessing the lido area we would highly recomend this hotel .breakfast and dinner were also excellent. We hope to visit next year

This fabulous hotel is down at the entrance to the Old Town of Funchal, not stuck up in the “hotel zone” Adults only means a peaceful day and night. The walk along the seafront is flat and you can be in th main part of Funchal in abou 15 minutes. Staff are great and the food is excellent. There is a marvellous roof terrace which hardly anyone seems to know about, Fantastic views of the harbour and whole city.

Recently stayed at this hotel. Staff very pleasant. Exceptional food - not a fried potato chip in sight all wk. Rooms lovely with everything you need & more. In a great location. Mainly mature clientelle.

Ideally placed for walking around Funchal and near bus station. Food in restaurant high quality and variety, restaurant very comfortable, staff all helpful and friendly, particular mention of David.Rooms cleaned to a high standard.Sea view as described varies a bit, paid extra for a sea view room but at angle to sea from room we had, slightly disappointed as we'd read reviews of sea views over port, which we didn't have. But still good!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Room was very comfortable and well appointed. We enjoyed watching the cruise ships enter and leave the harbour from our balcony. Location was superb - close to the cable car and many good restaurants a stone's throw from the hotel entrance. Enjoyed the happy hour in the bar each evening. Would certainly stay here again when we return to Madeira.

Our first time at this hotel no tea/coffee facilities in the room also asked for a sea view but our balcony faced another building so extremely difficult to see the sea. When asked at reception we were told that tea/coffee facilities in the room were only for prestige guests so felt penalised for being first time guests. We've been to Madeira quite a few times staying in different hotels and always felt welcome and looked after. Disappointed. The location is excellent. Just next to the fort and old town. We chose this because of the location being on the flat as my husband isn't too good on his feet.

We have recently returned from our 2nd Trip to this fabulous Hotel and again we were not disappointed. The Hotel is in a fantastic location in the beautiful old part of Funchal. The Hotel is welcoming, spotlessley clean & the level of service is top rate. It was so lovely to see a lot of the staff who we recognised from our first visit, & who we feel recognised us. We met up with a lot of returning guests to, which shows how fabulous the Hotel is. We must mention The Pool Bar, The Captains Bar & Happy Hour, The Arsenal Restaurant especially Gourmet Nights, fantastic service & such a great range of food and drinks you cannot be disappointed. We had another fabulous holiday in The Porto Santa Marie , we came home in the Friday Night & booked our next holiday on the Saturday afternoon for September 2019, can't wait to return.

My husband and I returned to the Porto Santa Maria for a second time and were not disappointed. The room was very clean and comfortable and the kitchenette is a great bonus. The staff are the icing on the cake however, especially in the restaurant, they work very well as a team and treat guests with a professional but friendly manner; attentive but not overbearing and a mention that my husband couldn't eat a pudding on the gourmet evening (he's diabetic) produced an alternative quickly, quietly and unobtrusively.
