Quintinha de Sao Joao

This was a lovely hotel ,the service and cleanliness was excellent The food in the restaurant particularly at breakfast was good and varied The bar was a lovely relaxing place with entertainment on via a pianist The grounds and indoor and outdoor pools were clean and well presented

E love this hotel and have been around 6 times. We have tried other hotels in Madeira but this remains our favourite. The rooms are spacious and the public areas very comfortable. It is a 15-20 minute walk into the city centre making it very convenient but away from the hustle and bustle of the city given it the atmosphere of an oasis.

We stayed at Quintinha Sao Joao at the start of March 2019. We stayed in a junior suite which benefited from sunshine in the morning. The hotel itself is immaculate with lovely grounds. The room was excellent with a separate sitting room and large bathroom. There was also a kettle and coffee machine in the room. We stayed half board and had an excellent choice of hot and cold food for breakfast. The evening meals had different choices each evening and the food was cooked to perfection. Service was not rushed and very relaxed. The staff in the dining area and the bar are really friendly and helpful. They, without exception, were excellent throughout our stay and set this hotel apart from many others. Whilst on the island we visited many places within Funchal and also ventured around the West coast. The highlight was a tour with Madeira Sidecars to the Nun's Valley - an exceptional and different way to see the island. If we return to Madeira, we would definitely stay at Quintinha Sao Joao again.

Beautifully kept hotel with excellent staff. Full of very comfortable classic furniture including a grand piano in the bar. Junior suites extremely spacious with lovely views. Gardens kept neat and tidy constantly and full of interesting plants and flowers. Outside pool quite small and indoor pool a little bigger and warm. Family run so everyone is so welcoming.Hotel is a downhill 10 minute walk to the centre however there is a courtesy bus which has to be booked. Taxi cost about 7 euros.

This is the fifth time we have stayed at the Quinthina Sao Joao and every time has been excellent. The cleanliness, service and staff at the hotel are second to none. We would not consider staying anywhere else in Funchal and are considering when to book for next year

Good Food , Nice Room . Friendly Service Pool smallish but sufficient given that the island is for dicovering Great taxi based day trip with Lucas bookable at hotel through reception or Rosie the resident rep. Hotel on hill but easy enough to walk into Funchal. Courtesy bus in day or Taxi (10 Euros) in the evening

Excellent friendly staff which made our stay all the better. We stayed half board in order to enjoy the eating out experience which we would recommend.Food at the hotel average so we were pleased we chose to only go half board. The hotel has a nice colonial feel but with modern facilities. Beds and rooms very comfortable. One tip to potential holidaymakers , take with you mosquito cream as my wife suffered from extensive bites which cost us doctors fees and medication that was not planned for.

All aspects of this hotel are very good. Staff are attentive and very helpful. The hotel is very nice, clean and classy. With only 43 rooms it feels friendly. Pools are big enough and poolside bar/food is very good. Other facilities are top notch too.

I stayed at this hotel by myself for a week on a half board basis and was royally treated by the wonderful staff who couldn't do too much for me. The bedroom was huge and very well appointed and the pool and grounds were lovely, although it was disappointing that the outdoor pool was out of commission. Great meals and very well priced drinks for a 5 star hotel.

Was a country manor house and retains the "old worldly" charm and elegance in its furnishings and service. Ideal for a quiet, peaceful and enjoyable holiday. All aspects were superb and is more centrally located to Funchal than all the "Concrete Jungle Hotels" whose only advantage is their beach location, if that matters.

Could not find a fault with the hotel, it was impeccable - absolutely first class, as were all the staff. All the amenities of a large hotel but on a more friendly and personal basis. All information was provided and if anything extra was required - it was done. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff revelled in anything out of the ordinary requests.

Lovely hotel, had everything you need. Staff were friendly and happy and worked well together. Hotel was away from the town but not too far to walk or take a taxi. Definitely would recommend staying there. We also got upgraded to a room with a balcony which was fab.

Lovely hotel,great staff,excellent restaurant makes for a first class holiday Transport provided into central Funchal and return journey arranged for late afternoon. Lovely additional touches in the form of gifts of wine and cakes over the Easter period.
