Things are pretty go-slow around these parts, so there are only a handful of eating options on your doorstep. But if hunting out a hidden gem, drinking with the locals and tucking into fresh, salty seafood sounds like your perfect evening, you’ll be in your element.
If a bit of peace and quiet is top of your beach wish list, then Binidali is hard to beat. Find a sandy spot for an afternoon snooze, and drift off with blue-green waters on the horizon and the scent of pine trees on the sea breeze.
Journey inland through a tangle of country roads to the Bodegas Binifadet winery. Start with a tour of the rolling vineyards and a nosy round the distillery, followed by expert wine tasting tips under a vine-shaded terrace. If gin’s your thing, pop into Mahon’s Xoriguer Distillery for a pomada or two – a refreshing gin cocktail with a dash of bitter lemon.
Menorca
Drive for 15-minutes from Son Bou towards the centre of the island and you'll reach the pretty whitewashed village of Alaior, known as the 'cultural capital' of Menorca. The centre is steeped in charming medieval history, and all the steep narrow roads lead up to the Church of Santa Eualalia that looks down over the town.
Menorca
Take a tour of Bodegas Binifadet to find out how wine is made. The wineries here can be visited all year round and the tours give a comprehensive history of Binifadet wine and show you how it's produced and stored. The bodega is open Monday to Friday but the restaurant attached is open every day.
Menorca
Postcards may be a little bit passé, but if you've ever seen one of Menorca it will undoubtedly be of the virgin beaches at Macarelleta. The shallow waters give the bays a tropical turquoise hue and it's less-crowded than other beaches nearby and a stunning place to swim and sunbathe.
