PortAventura isn’t just for summer visitors. You can enjoy exciting Oktoberfest, Halloween, Christmas and New Year celebrations here too.
The two main beaches are by the harbour. Llevant, the town’s longest beach, is great for families with children’s play area and pedaloes. Ponent, with its array of bars, restaurants and watersports is on the other side of the harbour. For something a little quieter, try pine-fringed Larga beach.
With rides for thrill-seekers and little ones alike it’s not surprising that PortAventura is the major attraction for families. Explore the park’s six ‘worlds’ full of shows, music and dancing, and enjoy more thrills in the waterpark. For grown-up fun, try a day trip to the Montserrat monastery where you can enjoy some spectacular mountain views.
Karting in Adrenaline Park, thrilling water slides at the Aquopolis and Aqualeon Parks, biking, jeep and quad safaris – the kids will be exhausted! If you want to take things a little easier, you can go for a round of golf at one of the many local courses.
You’re fine for fast food here, but Salou also offers Spanish tapas. Look out for fresh seafood, and local favourite, paella. You’ll find lots of restaurants clustered around the promenade and the marina. For an even bigger choice of tapas, try Cambils a 15-minute drive away. Restaurants near the harbour at Tarragona are also good for seafood.
The streets near the beach are the best place for souvenirs and you’ll find boutiques near the marina and station. There’s a market on every day of the week in and around the resort, with Salou’s on Monday morning in the old town. For serious shoppers, Barcelona is the place.
There are plenty of restaurants and ice cream parlours where you can take the family, but if you’re looking for a big night out head for the ‘Slammers’ area of Salou, which is full of bars and clubs. Serious clubbers can head for nearby Pacha La Pineda and you’ll also find a good selection of restaurants, bars and discos at the marina in Tarragona.
