Kripperlmarkt Manger Market (25th Nov – 24th Dec 2017)*
Just a couple of minutes from Marienplatz, you’ll come to Kripperlmarkt Manger Market, where you can purchase the pieces to create your very own nativity scene. This is one of the biggest manger markets in Germany and covers everything from collectors’ items to more affordable classics.
Marienplatz Christmas Market (27th Nov – 24th Dec 2017)*
The oldest and most famous of Munich’s Christmas markets – held in the central square of Marienplatz – offers a beautiful backdrop for an evening of festivities. Located next to the New Town Hall, you can enjoy great live music while you admire the 30ft tree that dazzles in the evening sky.
Tollwood Winter Festival (25th Nov – 31st Dec 2017)*
Held in Olympia Park, Tollwood Winter Festival is more than a market. Taste cuisine from across the globe and watch performances from a variety of exciting acts. This huge event lasts for around five weeks and brings an exciting collection of clothes, crafts and creativity to Munich.
Medieval Market (24th Nov – 22nd Dec 2017)*
Continuing the medieval tradition of a Munich Christmas fair, this market is held at Wittelsbacher Platz. Take a trip back in time with the help of colourful costumes, exciting performances and seasonal stalls, all selling an amazing range of quaint little presents and keepsakes. There’s even mulled wine!
Munich Airport Christmas Market (19th Nov – 30th Dec 2017)*
What better time to start your Christmas market exploring than when you land at Munich Airport? Explore the 50 stands that are filled with gifts and crafts, before making your way to the giant ice rink for a spot of skating – an ideal setting for your first moments in the city.
Sendlinger Christkindlmarkt (Nov 24th – Dec 23rd 2017)*
From the giant advent calendar offering daily prizes, to the puppet theatre that the kids will adore, the Sendlinger Christkindlmarkt is the perfect place for Christmas cheer. Held in Harras, the range of stalls will make it easy to tick things off your seasonal shopping list.
Munich has many landmarks that you won’t want to miss. Nymphenburg Palace is a breathtaking building in a superb location to the west of the city. Elsewhere, you’ll find eye-catching architecture wherever you turn, such as the Town Hall, Theatine Church and the Opera House, to name a few.
Get your skates on
Wrap up in your woollies and show off your skating skills. Frederiksberg Runddel is one of the most popular and is open into the night, so you can skate under the starlit sky. The rink at Kongens Nytorv Square is a good size for whizzing along beside the Royal Theatre.
Taste the delights
Sample some of the local cuisine between exploring the top must-see sights. Try the famous Bratwurst sausage or treat yourself to a jumbo pretzel, known in Germany as a Brezel. From savoury to sweet, there’s a Deutsche dish with your name on it, so be sure to taste it all!
Shop ‘til you drop
Head into the centre and you’ll stumble across streets lined with famous fashion retailers and independent boutiques – fabulous for buying gifts. If you like your stores all in one place, OEZ Olympia has 135 shops and a number of restaurants to refuel you after a full day on your feet.
From musical concerts to ballet and opera, Munich has loads to offer in the way of performances and entertainment. With extravagant and majestic buildings adding to the ambience, a show is the best way to end a magical day exploring the many markets of the city.
