Be amazed by the art of Venice Biennale

See the spectacle of the ‘Olympics of Art’ in 2019! The Venice Biennale only takes place every two years, bringing together bold and brave works from artists representing over 50 countries. Step inside national pavilions to see inspired concepts that reach for the pinnacle of creativity.

Go on a city break to Venice with Jet2CityBreaks and take your pick from hotels close to Giardini della Biennale and Arsenale, the two key locations of the Venice Biennale. You’ll also get return flights and 22kg baggage wrapped up in one easy booking.

Cathy Wilkes is going to represent the UK for the Venice Biennale 2019. Her sculptural work captures the banality of domestic life and modern existence, with a melancholy twist. Meanwhile, France will be represented by the winner of the 2013 Turner Prize, Laure Prouvost.

As the name suggests, the Giardini della Biennale was specifically created to host this art extravaganza, and is home to 29 national pavilions featuring countries from across the world. It’s also well worth visiting the Arsenale, the huge historic shipyard that features an indoor exhibition of some dramatic pieces.

In 2019, the theme for the Venice Biennale will be focused around ‘May you live in interesting times’. Often misquoted as a Chinese curse, this phrase highlights the turbulent politics of the present day. Ralph Rugoff, the Director of London’s Hayward Gallery, will be the first ever UK-based curator of the Biennale.
