Cavtat’s sleepy coastline is a mix of quaint little cafés and pebble beaches. It sits right in the middle of a horseshoe-shaped bay, making the warm swills of the water especially calm for swimming. It’s all linked together by a charming coastal path, which runs through pine woods.
The town was built in the Middle Ages, on the site of a Roman city. Have a coffee in the town square, and take in 15th-century architecture and Baroque church. Plus you’re just 40 minutes by boat from the fairytale city of Dubrovnik.
This corner of Croatia is blessed with hundreds of islands. Lokrum, just a boat ride away from Dubrovnik, is a real treat – the Emperor of Mexico once used it as a holiday home, and it’s still inhabited by his peacocks! Think peaceful forests and gorgeous lakes as well as a Benedictine monastery.
Cavtat, Dubrovnik Area
Cavtat’s secluded bay makes the perfect setting for sleek yachts to bob up and down in unison, adding a touch of glamour to the parade of harbourside restaurants. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing your spot to tuck into net-fresh fish and sumptuous seafood. The flavours will floor you.
Cavtat, Dubrovnik Area
Pebbly Cavtat Beach has the best of both worlds. Not only is it in a prime location in the centre of Tiha Bay, it’s bagged a tranquil spot, thanks to a leafy green border that protects it from the bustling streets. It’s perfect for families and divers with its clear, calm waters and sandy sea bottom.
Cavtat, Dubrovnik Area
This Renaissance masterpiece was built in the 15th century and remains one of the area's most beautiful buildings. Enter the side chapel for a look at the polyptych of St Michael, a famous work by Vicko Lovrin Dobričević dating back to 1510. The church also features some medieval altarpieces, and nearby you can explore the remains of an ancient Roman amphitheatre.
