Lapad is a pretty plot curling out into the Adriatic Sea. It’s dotted with quiet, pebbly beaches, and patches of olive and cypress trees. The working harbour is the hub of it all – you can spend a few hours there people-watching over a coffee, or tucking into some Mediterranean food with a view of the boats.
Lapad is really well-positioned for boat trips. From the harbour, you can take a 30-minute ferry to the totally chilled-out Elaphiti Islands. Cars aren’t allowed here, so most people rent bikes to explore the soft, sandy beaches and forests. Or hail a ‘taxi’ – and enjoy being driven around in a golf buggy…
The bus drops you off right outside Dubrovnik’s grand Pile Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town. From here you can climb 600-year-old castle walls to drink in fantastic views across the Med. Or wander along the main thoroughfare, Stradun, with its ornate medieval fountain, shops and coffee houses.

Petite and attractive Bellevue Beach is one of the most popular in Dubrovnik and in the summer plays host to the good-humoured amateur water polo tournament “Divlje lige”. The cliffs surrounding the beach provide natural shade so visit in the morning and early afternoon if you want to soak up the sun.

Enjoy a cocktail in the unique Cave Bar, an elegant drinking hole in a natural cave underneath the Hotel More. Looking down into nothing through the glass floor is bound to get your head spinning but the ambience here is very relaxed. Head above ground to the restaurant for stunning sea views.

Take a relaxing stroll along the coastal trails to the tip of the Lapad Peninsula for gorgeous views. There are plenty of cafés to recharge at, and lots of secluded swimming spots to explore along the way. Take the track leading up through dense oak forest to the top of Petka hill for exquisite views.
