When researching things to do in Ibiza, partying might be the most famous pass time. But stray away from the main resorts and you’ll find oodles of traditional charm and unspoiled natural beauty. It’s a hangout for hippies too, and there are still several bohemian enclaves dotted about the island.

Clubbing paradise

Ibiza clubs are second to none, drawing in hordes of dance aficionados with its world-class DJs and big-name clubs like Pacha. And that’s not to mention the legendary beach parties – get down to the bass-fuelled grooves on these sizzling sands. Stay up for one sensational all-nighter.

Traditional ways

Away from the bright lights of the party towns, traditional hamlets dot the countryside, many of them barely changed in centuries. Then there’s the island’s capital, Ibiza Town, with its UNESCO-listed old quarter crammed full of fascinating medieval architecture. There’s so much history to get to know under the surface.

Ibiza is blessed with a string of soft, sandy beaches. The bigger stretches tend to be lively spots like Playa d’en Bossa and Las Salinas, filled with sun worshippers and banana boats. If you fancy something more low-key, beach-hop around the tiny ‘calas’ hidden among cliffs on the south-west coast.

Sights

Ibiza Town’s old quarter is brimming with history. A UNESCO World Heritage site, its narrow cobbled streets are guarded by vast medieval walls – an impressive sight in themselves. The imposing 13th-century cathedral of Santa Maria d’Eivissa is top of the must-visit list, closely followed by the Almudaina Castle with its breathtaking views.

Activities

Watersports fans are in heaven on this fun-loving island. The tick-list includes everything from windsurfing to wakeboarding. If you prefer dry land, head north to find great hiking and biking routes in the forested mountains. Or, jump on a boat trip out to Ibiza’s littler sibling, Formentera.

Eating and drinking (beaches)

Traditional Ibizan options, like the hearty bullit de peix fish stew, and sizzling Spanish tapas dishes are a must-try. There’s lots of choice in the main resorts, from upmarket dining to street food and everything in-between. Refresh your palate with a delicious granizado or horchata – Ibiza’s vitamin-drenched answer to the slushie.

Shopping (beaches)

Embrace the island’s hippy scene at the Wednesday market in Es Cana. Colourful stalls jangle with beads, bracelets and other bohemian trinkets, and there’s no shortage of floaty saris and funky artwork either. If you’re in search of a little bit of luxury then Ibiza’s pretty boutiques are sure to impress.

Nightlife

San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa are the biggest players on the club scene. Playa d’en Bossa has a slightly more sophisticated vibe and is home to three of the island’s super-clubs. Ibiza Town has its fair share of clubs, too, including Pacha – the island’s only club that’s open all year round.
