Sunny, sunny, sunny…
Ever wondered where your fave sun-drenched musical was filmed? That’s right, Mamma Mia was snapped right here on the idyllic isle of Skiathos. Follow in the footsteps of Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan and say: ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ to two familiar landmarks – St. Nikolaos Bell Tower and the Old Port!
An isle of two sides
Skiathos is lucky enough to boast both the buzz of the crowds and total tranquillity, and the best bit? You don’t have to venture far for a change of vibe. Weave among locals and wide-eyed sightseers in popular Skiathos Town or head to nearby Achladies where go-slow is the name of the game.
Skiathos is one of four inhabited isles that make up the Sporades archipelago, which translates as ‘scattered ones’. The isle is famed for its shipbuilding past, which took off in the 1900s, and today there’s still a teeny tiny shipwright crafting caiques in the north of the island… dreamy!
