By the beach
It’s the beaches that steal the show here. Sand dunes separate the River Segura from the shore, so you’ll have a scenic backdrop, whichever spot you plonk down on. Over on Guardamar Moncayo, you can even go VIP with your own private cabana. This beach promises clean, honey-coloured sand, snack bars serving up ice-cold drinks, and calm waters for the kids.
In the heart of town, Reina Sofia Park is a peaceful place to shelter from the sun. Weave your way among the pines trees for a picnic by the lake, and watch out for peckish peacocks! There’s a big kids’ playground, plus shows and a funfair over summer. Next door, Parque Alfonso XIII takes you on a wooded walk along the riverbank to a lovely little marina.
Souvenirs, food, clothes, haircuts – you name it, you can get it at the Mercadillo de Campo de Guardama! Rise and shine nice and early on a Sunday morning if you want a good chance to rummage through the whopping 500 stalls before the crowds set in.
