You’re in a great location for resort hopping here, with the pretty villages that lie on the Kassandra and Sithonia peninsulas within easy reach. Neighbouring Aghios Nikolaos is as pretty as can be, with flower-filled squares, 19th-century buildings and quaint cobbled alleyways.
Over on the Kassandra peninsula is the enchanting village of Afitos. It’s basically Halkidiki in resort form, with a traditional centre complete with a charming church. There’s also a Folklore museum and plenty of authentic shops selling local arts and crafts. This is one that’s not to be missed.
Halkidiki
Just five kilometres from the organised beaches of Nikiti, this lovely, natural stretch of coast makes for a good day trip. There’s a car park and access is easy. Two beach bars are fronted by loungers and offer free wifi. The far end of the beach is more peaceful. The sand is fine and there are no sharp rocks in the water.
Halkidiki
This park, dedicated to the Greek philosopher, is at the edge of the village of Stagira, on a hilltop with views of the Gulf of Ierissos. It’s a lovely setting with hands-on exhibits that are based on Aristotle’s views on nature, science and mathematics. Entry is cheap and there’s a café for snacks and drinks.
Halkidiki
This imposing Byzantine tower with its underground chamber has an interesting history. The rebellious islanders barricaded themselves in here during the revolution of 1821. The village feast takes place her at the end of June, and on 21st June it’s the site of some arts events for the Kassandra Festival.
