Church of São Lourenço

Inside the Igreja of São Lourenço, the walls are completely covered in the most dramatic azulejo painted ceramic tiles, which recount scenes from the life of São Lourenço, including his death in Rome. Created by 16th-century tiler Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes, they are a fine example of Portuguese sacred art.
