Albufeira Holidays

Show on Map

With 25 beaches, great golf and a buzzing nightlife, Albufeira is as popular with couples and families as it is with the party crowd.

Beach heaven

Albufeira has a 30-kilometre coastline made up of 25 stunning beaches. Many are Blue Flag winners, offering huge stretches of golden sand and turquoise waters. Whether you’re looking for a quiet cove or a lively beach scene, you’ll find it in Albufeira.

A choice of history and thrill rides

Albufeira has plenty in the way of history and heritage. Pay a visit to Paderne Castle, a Moorish stronghold, or check out one of the pretty little churches, like Sant’Ana. If it’s action you’re after, take the kids to Zoomarine theme park, or try the thrill rides at Aqualand Algarve water park.

Nightlife for everybody

Come nightfall it’s all about the Strip, a neon stretch of bars and discos. Here you’ll find karaoke, foam parties and big-name DJs. Those after something more family-friendly can stick to the Old Town, where the cobbled streets are lined with restaurants and cafés.

Insider Tip

Albufeira’s main beaches are beautiful, but can be crowded in high season. If you fancy escaping it all, head to the beaches of the Vale do Lobo. They’re only a few kilometres down the road, but are fabulously unspoilt.

Best beaches

Albufeira is home to an incredible 25 beaches, 20 of them sporting Blue Flags. Fisherman’s Beach is the busiest and most famous, thanks to its city-centre location. Be sure to check out the street markets and live music held here. And Gale Beach, with its caves, grottoes and rock pools, is a real beauty.

Top sights

Set aside a day to explore Albufeira’s Old Town, where you’ll find narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings. The square is a great place to grab a coffee and people-watch. Or wander down to the marina, on the western edge of town, where you can rent a boat to take out for the day.

Out and about

Like a water slide? Head to Slide and Splash, where you’ll find a choice of water chutes, plus a nice grassy area for picnicking. During summer you’ll find the full array of watersports, including diving and whale-watching. Or have a go at horseriding at Albufeira Riding Centre, which offers two-hour country rides.

Eating and drinking

There’s a huge choice of restaurants in the cobbled streets surrounding the Old Town square. This is the place to come for freshly cooked fish and traditional Portuguese dishes. And the Avenida Sà Carneiro – better known as the Strip – is lined with international bars and restaurants that stay open late.

Pick up souvenirs and beachwear in the little shops lining the Strip and the Old Town square. Or if you’re after the full mall experience, head to Algarve Shopping, near Guia, about six kilometres out of town. It’s home to brands like Zara and Mango, along with a multiplex cinema.

Albufeira’s famous Strip runs from the Hotel Montechoro to the beach. It gets very lively here at night, with crowds of holidaymakers flocking to the late-night bars, many of which offer karaoke, Sky Sports and live acts. The top end of the Strip is quieter and more family oriented, while the lower end draws a young, up-for-it crowd.
