Part of the ‘Golden Triangle’, Almancil is in a privileged space. If you’re looking for somewhere swanky with a bit of history and culture thrown in, you’re in the right place. Upmarket restaurants and traditional seafood digs are dotted around. Check out the detailed blue ceramic tiles inside Igreja de São Lourenço too.
There’s plenty to do in the water or on dry land. Quinta do Lago is a winner for golf and water sports, but Almancil isn’t far from go-karting tracks, horse riding stables and tennis courts. Any football fans? You can even visit the Stadium of Algarve, which hosted some Euro 2004 matches.

What better way to spend a winter break on the Algarve than with a spot of birdwatching? Ria Formosa National Park is a vast maze of lagoons and tiny islands on the coast of Quinta do Lago. This epic ecosystem is protected by UNESCO and it's home to loads of aquatic birds, such as flamingos, pelicans and storks, and fascinating creatures including seahorses. Walk along one of the nature trails or take a boat and glide through the lagoons.

These jagged cliffs mark the most south-westerly point in Europe and they’re commonly referred to as ‘the end of the world’. The lighthouse that sits on the edge has one of the brightest lights in Europe – it can be seen up to 60 miles away! Stroll along the top and see vultures and ravens that inhabit this unusual space.
