Icmeler Holidays

Show on Map

Icmeler may be a lively purpose-built resort, but it’s got an old village within it and nature close by.

Scenic setting

Surrounded by hills of pine, olives and cypress trees, Icmeler is quieter than its livelier neighbour Marmaris, but still a busy and popular resort.

Insider Tip

Take a stroll up from the coast along Icmeler’s canal, past charming bars and small boats moored by beautiful gardens.

Best beaches

Icmeler beach is a sandy curve with a dramatic backdrop of lush, green mountains. Whether you’re stretching out on a sunbed, trying your hand at watersports, or taking a boat trip, you’ll be amazed by its beauty. Would-be kite surfers or keen horse riders should head to the wilder Gökova Bay. Its big, sandy beach has reliable winds all summer long, a kitesurfing school and a riding centre.

Top sights

Lycian tombs carved into cliffs, loggerhead turtles and mud baths can all be seen on a daytrip to Dalyan, 93km away. Further afield, but still accessible on a daytrip, lies the ancient city of Ephesus with its huge Roman ruins. Alternatively head to Pamukkale for its famous Cotton Castle – dramatic white cliffs of frozen calcium with bright blue pools. Or, closer to home, take a boat trip to the sandy Cleopatra Island, one of a group of islands close to Marmaris.

Out and about

Take a safari in an open-top jeep into Turkey’s wilderness. You’ll stop to cool off in waterfalls and pass local villages. Watch dolphins at their tricks or even swim with them at Marmaris Dolphinarium-Aquapark. At Marmaris’ open air theatre you can see Turkish dancing, including belly dancing. And at the town’s Long Beach, you can learn scuba diving.

Eating and drinking

The centre of Icmeler has a wide choice of bars and places to eat. Cuisines from all over the world can be found in the restaurants bordering Marmaris’ Long Beach. For a more romantic evening, check out Netsel Marina’s luxury restaurants and café-bars. Overlooked by a 14th-century Ottoman castle, it is also home to 750 yachts and the odd ocean liner.

If you like to haggle, you’ll love the local markets. Souvenirs, leather goods and clothes can be found at Turunç market. For shopping on a grander scale, visit the maze-like Grand Bazaar in Marmaris’ old town. Here you’ll find corridor after corridor of gold, rugs, souvenirs and fake designer goods.

Icmeler’s nightlife is lively and varied. Pubs and bars offer anything from live music to karaoke to folk dancing. There are also two nightclubs. An even wider choice of nightlife can be found in Marmaris, which boasts a bar street and is home to the famous Talk of the Town drag show.
