Canico

Canico holidays

This quaint east coast town is a haven for walking and water sports, so if you’re feeling adventurous, this is the resort for you. Catch some rays on the rocks at the small pebbly beach, or splash about in the lido by black, volcanic rock. Fresh fish dishes top off supremely laid-back evenings.

Dramatic coast and traditional village

There are two sides to Canico – the coastal resort, with its dramatic, rocky shoreline and, up in the hills, a traditional village. Here you’ll find twisting streets, a main square, botanical gardens and an 18th-century church. It’s linked to the coast by a steep, cobbled path.

Outdoor fun

Canico’s a great base for exploring Madeira’s magnificent countryside. Take a hike along the levada walking trails and drink in the lush landscape and rugged hills. You’ve also got a world of undersea life right on your doorstep at Madeira’s marine reserve, Reserva Natural Parcial do Garajau.
