The name of Lanzarote’s capital reflects the black volcanic reefs sitting below the sea. You’ll be spoilt for desert-like heat, museums, castles and even a saltwater lagoon. This former fishing village, unlike its neighbours, stands untouched by Manrique’s magic, but it’s got a brilliant beach and shopping outlets galore.

Arrecife has loads to offer for history lovers. From the eye-catching castles to museums and art exhibitions, you’ll find yourself immersed in Canarian culture in an instant. The area’s history dates back centuries so follow the journey of how this thriving city has evolved from its humble fishing port roots.
There are three main beaches around Arrecife and their soft golden sands and twinkling waters are as pretty as a picture. The main beach, El Reducto, is great for its amenties, with cafes, bars and restaurants close by. Take to the promenade for a relaxing stroll or grab a seat in a café and soak up the atmosphere.

Arrecife, Lanzarote
The city is well known for its historic sites, charming harbour, volcanic landscapes and cultural attractions, as well as being the administrative and economic centre of Lanzarote.
Notable landmarks include the 16th-century Castillo de San Gabriel, the Castillo de San José (which now houses the International Museum of Contemporary Art), and several historic churches and plazas.
The city hosts art galleries, museums, theatres and cultural festivals throughout the year. It also features distinctive architecture influenced by both Spanish and Canary Island traditions.
While the city itself is more urban, nearby you can find volcanic landscapes, salt flats and scenic promenades. These offer striking views of Lanzarote's unique natural environment.
The atmosphere is welcoming, with a mix of traditional island character and cosmopolitan touches. It feels both local and international at the same time.
