Walk back and forth across Chain Bridge and experience the beauty of Budapest. The gigantic castle complex makes for superb photos, and the outdoor baths are totally calming. Budapest’s answer to the London Eye, as well as the Grand Circus will prove favourites for the little ones.

Budapest Zoo

One of the oldest zoos in the world, the Budapest Zoo has been home to rare species of monkeys, lemurs and birds for 150 years. Today, it’s part of a worldwide network supporting the conservation of endangered species. Visit to see the Persian Leopard, Golden Lion Tamarin and White Rhino.

Buda Hill Funicular

If you're visiting Buda Castle Hill, why not take the funicular railway, also known as the Sikló? It may only climb 50 metres but that doesn't stop it being on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the kids will love it. Originally steam-powered, its two completely renovated cars now run on electricity.

Tropicarium

See sharks being fed by hand or watch alligators enjoying a tropical rainstorm at Budapest's Tropicarium. You can get close-up to thousands of watery creatures from all over the world. From birds to bugs and monkeys to reptiles, they're all here. You can even stroke stingrays.

Castle Hill

You get several attractions for the price of one at Buda Castle Hill. After you've admired Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion, hop on the funicular railway to check out the President's house, Alexander Palace. There's also the Royal Palace, which contains two museums and Castle Garden Bazaar.

Thermal Baths

Take your pick from the 15 thermal baths that are open to the public. Head to the 16th century baths, children will go mad for the chutes and wave machine at the Palatinus Bath on Margaret Island or for the older ones, try the famous spa parties on Fridays and Saturdays.

Margaret Island

Escape the city on Margaret Island, a park-filled sanctuary in the middle of the Danube. Featuring a tiny zoo, a Japanese Garden and a pavilion built for open-air concerts among its attractions, exploring the island is a rewarding afternoon. You can reach it from either bank at its northern tip.
