Your to-do list will be fit to burst here in Saint Raphael. From Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire’s ancient architecture to the Musée Archéologique with its Stone Age and Roman Empire relics, you’ll never be short of ways to fill your days.
Car parks, they’re not a pretty sight. But Saint Raphael came up with the ultimate solution – Jardin Bonaparte. Positioned on the Vieux Port and spanning 20,000m2, this gorgeous garden is dotted with tropical plants and plenty of seating spots for admiring the panoramic views. You’d never know 800 cars are parked below it!
Just 4km away from Saint Raphael is the colourful town of Fréjus. Spend an afternoon among 2,000 years of history as you wander the pastel-coloured alleyways and stumble across tree-lined squares. Look out for the local markets too, they’re held across the town on different days of the week.

Saint-Raphaël's main appeal is its diversity. It offers everything you expect from the French Riviera—sandy beaches, a bustling marina, and fantastic restaurants—but with a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere than its glamorous neighbours. Its biggest unique feature is the magnificent, red-rock Estérel Massif that plunges directly into the turquoise sea, providing incredible opportunities for hiking, driving, and discovering secluded coves.
The best time to visit Saint-Raphaël is during the spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant, and the crowds are thinner. The summer months (July and August) are peak tourist season, offering vibrant beach life but larger crowds.
Some of the best beaches in Saint-Raphaël include Plage de la Péguière and Plage du Veillat, both known for their clean sands and clear waters. For a quieter experience, consider visiting Plage de Santa Lucia or taking a short boat ride to explore the nearby coves and hidden beaches.
Yes, it is considered one of the more family-friendly resorts on the Côte d'Azur. The atmosphere is relaxed, the beaches at Agay are perfect for children, and there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained.
You'll enjoy classic Provençal and Mediterranean cuisine. Look for fresh seafood, soupe de poisson (fish soup) with rouille, ratatouille, olive tapenade, and local rosé wine. Don't miss the daily food market at Place Victor Hugo for a taste of local produce.
