About Pyrgos
Image
Text
Snuggled on a hilltop between vineyards, Pyrgos is a tranquil patch on the island. It’s got Santorini’s signature whitewashed buildings, tiny bell-clad churches and blues domes, mixed with wine bars and top-notch restaurants serving Greek goods. Tall pine trees huddle around the main square, where you can pick up a fresh brew from one of the dinky coffee shops.

Heaps of history

This preserved village was once the capital of Santorini and you can spy traces of its heritage among the steep medieval cobbled alleys. The biggest remnant of centuries past is Pyrgos Kasteli, the village’s hilltop Venetian castle. Amble up for crackin’ views over the island.

Spectacular sunsets

Pyrgos’ superb location means sunset’s an amazing time to pull up a pew and enjoy the view. Choose one of the hillsides tavernas to sip locally made wine and nibble on meze at the same time. Franco's Café is a favourite spot.

Beautiful volcanic beaches

As Pyrgos is set in the centre of the island, you’ve got beaches to choose from on both the west and east coast. Kamari Beach is a big hit with both locals and tourists, with plenty of water sports, loungers and tavernas to keep everyone happy.
