Xewkija (Gozo), Malta and Gozo
It’s true – an astounding church completes the streets of Xewkiya. This knockout religious building typifies the grand architecture of Gozo, but it’s got a regal, slightly Italian look to it, too. The opulent domed church has a sweeping staircase entrance, but this isn’t the only part of town to admire…
Sitting within a pretty, unblemished valley, you’ll have plenty of views to drink in if you’re keen to explore. Meander around the landscape, or take a seat and rest on the plush hills. There are quaint nearby farmhouses and even Gozo Stadium on the outskirts! You can really set your own agenda.

Malta and Gozo
Xewkija is known for its impressive Rotunda, which houses one of the largest church domes in Malta. The village is also famous for its traditional Gozitan architecture and vibrant local culture.
The best time to visit Xewkija is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant, and tourist crowds are smaller, allowing for a more relaxed experience.
The main attractions in Xewkija include the Rotunda of Xewkija, which is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and the nearby historical site of the Xewkija Windmill, along with various local eateries and shops that showcase Gozitan culture.
Xewkija hosts various traditional feasts and events throughout the year, especially celebrating the patron saint, St. John the Baptist, in early August, featuring parades, fireworks, and local festivities.
Xewkija can be a charming place to stay as it offers a more tranquil, local experience compared to busier towns. It's centrally located on the island, making it easy to explore Gozo's other attractions.
