Tour around Akrotiri’s amazing beaches, starting with Caldera Beach. It’s a quiet stretch of dark sand offering lovely views towards the Caldera. On the other side of the peninsula, tick off a trio of amazing beaches. Aspri Beach is a pretty cove, Mesa Pigadia Beach is carpeted in black sands and Kokkini is a spectacular stretch backed by red-hued cliffs.
Right on the far tip of the peninsula is Akrotiri Lighthouse, a bright-white 19th-century number that contrasts beautifully with the rusty-coloured rocks it’s perched on. Come here for mesmerising sunset views to rival those of Oia. Don’t miss the Minoan treasures at ancient Akrotiri either, with well-preserved relics from the Bronze Age to discover.
Akrotiri, Santorini
Thousands of years ago, in 1613 BC, a volcanic eruption buried the ancient Minoan city of Akrotiri underneath a layer of volcanic ash. This Bronze Age settlement was hidden from the world until 1967, when excavators discovered its well-preserved remnants. See it for yourself with a day trip to Ancient Akrotiri.
Akrotiri, Santorini
Seek out this bright-white 19th-century lighthouse perched on the island’s south-western tip. Visitors flock here to catch Santorini’s famous sunset for good reason – it’s one of the best places to witness it! Arrive just before dusk to find the perfect spot on the rocks and watch the sky transform in a riot of colour before seemingly sinking into the sapphire waters of the Aegean.
Akrotiri, Santorini
Make a beeline for one of the island’s most stunning patches. Also known as White Beach, this stretch of shore dazzles with its dove-white cliffs, which contrast vividly with the black sand shore and crystal-clear waters. It’s only accessible by boat, which you can catch from Akrotiri. There are no facilities here, so make sure you pack plenty of water!
