You won’t get more traditional than this resort. It’s smack bang between olive groves, with a wide main beach to draw you to the shore. As for in town, classic Greek tavernas serve mouth-watering meals day and night. Savvy shopper? Seek out souvenirs and knick-knacks to take home.
Just over 20km from Chania, you’ll have good transport links in Kolymbari. Chania is the island’s second-largest city, and offers all sorts of cultural treasures. Make sure you wander around the Venetian harbour, then take a look at the museums and markets dotted about in the centre.
Kolymbari, Crete (Chania Area)
Pottery, olive oil, fridge magnets, postcards, fabric jewellery, ceramics… the list of things to buy here goes on. If you’re keen to pick up a few knick-knacks for family, friends and yourself, there’s bags to choose from throughout Kolymbari’s classic souvenir shops. Various Cretan herbs and spices are also available to purchase.
Kolymbari, Crete (Chania Area)
Mediterranean and Greek fusions combine in the cluster of restaurants right by the shore. Grilled meats, halloumi and salads are still favourite feasts, but you’d regret not sampling the seafood. Sole, octopus, clams, mussels – the menus are brimming with the freshest and most mouth-watering catches of the day.
Kolymbari, Crete (Chania Area)
This impressive monastery looks traditional, with a humble exterior but grand domes as well. It was originally built back in the 9th century on the ruins of an ancient temple, but was then rebuilt in its current spot much later, with plenty of Venetian influences to boot. Byzantine relics remain inside.
