Find out moreRoll up, roll up to Rethymnon on Crete’s north coast. Etched with Venetian history, this charming harbour town is a buzzy place to tuck into seafood and knock back fiery shots of raki. And in the day? Well, the beach here stretches for miles east from the town, backed by a promenade filled with bars and cafés. Join the tanners or try your hand at the water sports among the sparkling waves. You can also travel to Rethymnon from Chania Airport, just down the coast from Heraklion.

At night, there’s only one place to go – Rethymnon’s harbour! Here you’ll find plenty of waterside restaurants and bars. Fresh catch of the day specials are popular but if you have a taste for international bites, you’re in luck. Look out for the market stalls that spring up in the evenings too – they’re great for souvenirs.
Get lost among the backstreets of Rethymnon and you’ll soon fall in love with the bougainvillaea-draped, colourful mansions. Keep your eyes peeled for archways, staircases, dinky churches and a mosque too. Beyond, venture to the Venetian Fortress overlooking the harbour and admire the sea views from its battlements.
Rethymnon – Heraklion, Crete (Heraklion Area)
The pristine beaches of Baja Beach Club is a 150 metre stretch of pure beach-bliss. Enjoy the stunning sea views lazing on your own private beach gazebo, rent a sun lounger and grab a delicious snack and drink from the beach bar. The friendly staff are on hand to look after you.
Rethymnon – Heraklion, Crete (Heraklion Area)
Across golden sands as far as the eye can see, the popular Rethymnon beach offers up calm and shallow waters that are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, whilst enjoying a cool refreshing break from the summer sunshine. Close by to the beach you’ll find plenty of great shops, cafés and restaurants.
Rethymnon – Heraklion, Crete (Heraklion Area)
It may not be as buzzing as Malia, but Rethymnon town has a lot to offer when it comes to a great night out. There are plenty of bars, clubs and cafés near the harbour that plays music late into the evening. Or for a more peaceful night out, you can enjoy an atmospheric dinner in one of the many tavernas.
