Protaras is a firm favourite for family holidays to Cyprus, with exciting sights and gorgeous beaches. Water sports are available, from pedalos to jet-skis, and there are pleasant coastal trails to the string of bays and sheltered coves. Muster up the energy for 170 steps up to Ilias Church.
More laid-back than Ayia Napa, Protaras still has plenty of places to eat out and a lively main street lined with bars and clubs. Although small, it certainly packs a punch in terms of photogenic looks, with its whitewashed walls and striking blue-painted dome.
