The charming Benitses village is drenched in history. The streets of this quaint town are lined with authentic Greek homes, inviting tavernas, beautiful churches and Achilleion Palace, making it the perfect place to wander and soak up the culture. Framing the village, you’ll find stunning countryside, where you can trek and explore.
Although the area has held on to its traditional charm well, Benitses isn’t short of modern amenities. The sparkling harbour is packed with glitzy private boats and yachts, while there’s plenty of restaurants, small bars and shops to check out too.
Like the rest of Corfu, Benitses is blessed with some shimmering shores. Let the sparkling Ionian Sea draw you to secluded sandy coves, where you can unwind on the blissful Benitses Beach. With clear waters and great swimming conditions, it’s been awarded the coveted Blue Flag label.
Corfu
The Byzantine Angelokastro Castle, or Castle of Angels, stands on the island’s highest peak 305 metres above sea level. The clear views for miles around from up here helped defend the island against Ottoman attack. It's a bit of a climb, but well worth it for the stunning views and amazing sunsets.
Corfu
Barbati is a relaxed beach popular with couples and families in a sheltered bay, a 10-minute walk down from the road. It has sparkling, clear, blue waters and is good for swimming and water sports but bring some water shoes to cross the pebbles. There are plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas and nearby places to eat and drink.
Corfu
This museum is set in the former church of the Holy Mother of God Antivouniotissa (Greek for ‘facing the mountain’). It’s the oldest ecclesiastical monument in Corfu, dating back to the 15th century. Inside is a treasure trove of religious art from that era up to the 19th century.
