The beach is waiting! Drive or walk down to the glistening sands of Avithos Beach, and you won’t be disappointed. Take some time out under a parasol, have a paddle in the turquoise waves, or even challenge the kids to a sandcastle-building contest. It’s one of Kefalonia’s prettiest plots of coastline!
There’s bound to be a few things stacking up on your to-do list, so why not embark on a voyage of discovery around the island? Kefalonia’s biggest sites – like Melissani and Drogarati Caves – will fascinate everyone. Plus, Svoronata isn’t far, where you could enjoy a light lunch in a traditional taverna.

This pretty harbour village surrounded by pebbly beaches has an atmosphere of traditional Greek hospitality. It’s a popular stop off for sailing boats and there are some great waterside cafes and tavernas. You have to try the wood-fired bread from the local bakery. It is also home to a well-regarded diving school.

The sprawling Venetian fortress in Assos was built in 16th century to protect the townspeople from pirates and Turks. You can take a walk up from the village through along a steep and winding track through olive trees to explore the fascinating ruins. Remember to take some water as there’s no café at the top.

It’s surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery and lush green hillsides, dotted with tavernas. Time seems to stand still here and you can easily lose yourself for a few hours.
