Find out moreAlong the eastern edge of Kefalonia, seafront Sami is a stone’s throw from one of Kefalonia’s most iconic and beautiful beaches – Antisamos. This curling bay of bright white pebbles promises to wow, as do the famous Melissani Lake and Drograti Cave nearby. It’s all rather chic in town, with go-slow water’s edge tavernas.

A charming town with naturally beautiful surroundings, Sami was selected as one of the main filming sites for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Its old villages and bright white beaches proved to be such stunning settings that they had many cinema-goers jumping on the next plane to Kefalonia!
Sami is the third-largest town in Kefalonia, but that doesn’t mean it’s just full of crowds. You’ll find that its port serves as the main link to nearby islands, with staggering scenes of the place Odysseus called home. There are even sailing routes to southern Italy and the Greek mainland.
This corner of Greece has a long legacy in mythology and ancient times. Get ready to check out the Acropolis of Sami for yourself! The stone structures are just rubble now, but you’ll still see breathtaking views from the top of the mountain, plus awesome ageing monasteries.
Sami, Kefalonia
This pebbly beach is popular for its beautiful clear waters. It's great for a stroll along the seafront, and the rock formations make it excellent for snorkelers. Make sure you explore the local area too – there’s a walking trail to a dreamy secluded beach and the ruins of ancient Sami aren’t too far away either.
Sami, Kefalonia
Drogarati Cave is more than 150 million years old and is one of the biggest caves in Kefalonia. It's 100 metres long and is known as the 'Concert Cave' because of its incredible acoustics. It also has a stunning array of stalactites and stalagmites. But bear in mind that there is a steep climb and lots of stairs involved.
Sami, Kefalonia
The ancient town of Sami has existed since Palaeolithic time. The Acropolis, a citadel situated in the centre of the town, is a reminder of the town's history. Dating back to the Hellenistic period, history enthusiasts will enjoy touring around the ruins of this magnificent building. You can also walk around the city walls; look out for the ancient theatre and tombs within.
