On the main beach, you’ll get silky golden sands, great sea views and plenty of water sports options. If you’ve got the kids in tow, take them for a paddle along the shore. If you’d rather just spread out and relax, you’ll have plenty of space to do so!
If you’ve got a few spare afternoons once you’ve explored the town, as well as nearby Chania and its botanical gardens, you’ve simply got to cycle the local routes or enjoy a spot of birdwatching. Sit down to traditional Greek cuisine, like fresh fish, rabbit and salads, and take the load off.
Kalyves, Crete (Chania Area)
Ancient Aptera’s theatre is a semi-circle of historic treasure. Shielded by olive groves and panoramic vistas of the White Mountains, it’s one of Chania’s nestled-away must-visit landmarks. The orchestra isn’t very large, but a good deal of the site is still visible after excavation. It’s well worth a wander around.
Kalyves, Crete (Chania Area)
Pull up a seat in one of the Greek tavernas scattered about, and prepare for dish after dish of fantastic food. The local favourites include fresh salads, slow-cooked lamb and beef, and crispy potatoes. You’ll also find a few international classics to choose from, and decent wine lists.
Kalyves, Crete (Chania Area)
Kalyves’ nightlife is pretty quiet, so don’t go expecting neon-lit clubs. Your best bet for a few drinks by the shore is to head to one of the low-key restaurants. Whether you’d prefer a glass of crisp, white wine or an ouzo like the locals, you’ll find somewhere up your street.
