Abora Catarina By Lopesan Hotels & Aqualand Waterpark

Our experience of staying at the Abora Caterina in Gran Canaria was good and bad. The first week we enjoyed all the facilities offered by the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was varied but could benefit from being hotter. The room was clean and comfortable. The second week was different. The large pool and sun area we had been using at the end of the hotel was closed. (Supposedly for building work which didn't materialise.) This meant that all the guests were now packed in around the smaller pool by the bar. This was bad enough, but builders started working on the roof above the bar. They were using sledge hammers and pneumatic drills so I leave it to you to visualise the noise. A few days before we were due to leave my partner was talking to the Jet 2 rep and suddenly the manager of the hotel rudely interrupted their conversation and proceeded to shout and abuse her bringing her to tears. He said that a Jet 2 employee had entered the hotel without his permission and was taking photographs of the building works. Apparently this was not true as the Jet 2 employee had spoken to the receptionist and was given permission. We asked the manager for a written apology for his behaviour, which he agreed to, but it never materialised. He offered us free drinks, which was rather silly as we were staying all inclusive. Bearing in mind covid restrictions were still in place, half of the dining room was closed off, meaning all the guests were crowded in to a reduced space. Our general impression of the hotel was good but if major building work is going to be done they should consider closing the hotel to guests while the work is undertaken. It would also be helpful if the hotel had informed Jet 2 of the proposed work so that they could advise potential guests of the possible disruption and reflect this in the prices or give them the opportunity to use a different hotel. From now on we will be avoiding hotels in the Lopesan group as they don't seem to put the needs of the guests at the top of their list of priorities.

The hotel is in a lovely spot on Playa Del Ingles still quiet enough if you don't want to be in the main hustle and bustle but close enough if you don't want to go out partying. The sand dunes are only a short walk away but to get to the waters edge is quiet a trek. There is a nudist area at this hotel on top of one of the buildings with sun loungers etc.... worth a visit if you don't want to walk the distance to the nudist beaches. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again, hopefully the building works will have stopped by then.

We booked with Jet2 Holidays for an all inclusive holiday for 6 adults and a toddler. The flights were on time, and the transfers very efficient. The hotel was very clean, and well maintained. The food was very good, with a good choice to suit all tastes. The rooms were large, modern and clean and beds very comfortable. The staff were friendly and hard working. The talented entertainments team put on a varied schedule of activities each day and outdoor shows every evening. There is a children's club but our little one was too young for this, however he enjoyed the play area and arcade. The hotel was situated in the Maspalomas area, there was a courtesy bus to the beach but we walked along the promenade approx 15 mins. During the week we visited the amazing Aquarium at Las Palmos. We had one meal outside of the hotel at the brand new Hard Rock Cafe at Playa Del Ingles, which was really lovely. Overall, we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend this hotel.

First hotel is stopped in where staff refused to help me get my luggage to room. Hard finding room as room numbers incomplete on walls. Was told by one receptionisthat that things happen in hotel that no other hotel in area experience.
