Hotel Madeira Regency Cliff

I couldn’t fault this hotel from the minute we arrived till the minute we left. Great experience. Everyone from manager down to cleaner were so friendly & professional. We would be delighted to go again. Funchal is a fun place with plenty to do. Lots of restaurants nearby & shopping centre literally across the road which stays open till late at night. We did a few trips, some walks & the famous tobogganing. The lovely little village, Camara de lobos was a 20 min bus journey away. So sorry to leave.

This was our second stay in this lovely hotel. The staff are delightful and nothing seems too much trouble. We had a ground floor room allocated which did not have the private balcony we had hoped for, and were upgraded to a wonderful junior suite. If you are looking for a peaceful, calm and restful holiday with no large impersonal eating areas and some of the most beautiful views, then stay here. The outside terrace echos the same ambiance, I cannot find any negatives to report. Location is perfect, although there are many steep walking areas around which would not suit some people. This is the perfect place to recharge your batteries and unwind.

Fantastic hotel. Great lounge deck with comfy sofas and chairs. Amazing ocean views. Great staff; very friendly and helpful. Any needs attended to immediately. Steep hill down to Promenade. Free courtesy bus three times daily into Funchal. Room quiet and private balcony.

A very clean and comfortable hotel. Helpful staff and always smiling. Only slight negative - identical breakfast buffet every day. Bit of variety would have been welcome - oh and coffee not so good either.

We paid a premium to travel at Christmas (half board) and paid extra for a superior room with a sea view based on the reviews on here posted with photos of the amazing large rooms. When we arrived we were allocated a large, dull, soulless room right next to the lift where we could hear the Christmas music blaring from it, and our room had a view of a large building. Not the sea view that we had requested! We requested to be moved and were then shown to a much smaller room which was perfectly quiet with an uninterrupted seaview. We were assured that this was a superior room - however it did not bare any resemblance to any of the lovely photos that we had seen posted on here, there was nowhere to sit in the room other than on the bed. We were told that although the hotel was not full this was the only room available to us, even when we asked if we could pay extra to upgrade we were told no. We felt thoroughly cheated by the hotel. The "courtesy bus" that is advertised is actually a 6 seater people carrier that goes into Funchal 3 times per day, and you have to book it in advance if you want to use it. It doesn't run on bank holidays (Boxing day). The hotel public areas lacked any atmosphere and were mostly deserted, sometimes we had to go looking for a member of staff to order a drink which would then grudgingly be served. The lovely outside areas were ruined by the continuous awful Christmas music blaring out from speakers hidden amongst the foliage. The hotel is located outside Funchal and is easily a 45 minute walk each way - up and down hills. We were on half board and were unimpressed by the food. The buffet was not topped up during the evening, even though you have to book which sitting you prefer so beware if you eat after 7pm as the food is at best lukewarm.

As anyone knows who reads my reports I try to be honest and informative.Small but excellent hotel. Adult only. Very clean and well presented. Staff exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Hotel was very quiet at all times. Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful; not only continental but also full English available for anyone who can eat that amount at that time of the morning. Chef will cook omelette or fried egg on demand, which is very helpful.There is special meal deal on offer; we bought 3 dinners. There is Buffet style 3 nights and menu other nights. The menu should be changed each night but, no matter what they claim, 2 of the nights were exactly the same. I know this as all of it was very poor choice ie curd cheese dish and Mussel soup as starter choice. Plus all main meal choices were quite odd and not to my taste. There should have been at least one bland choice. However when I pointed out that for 2 nights running I could not eat anything off the menu the third night was changed and there was plenty of good choices. In case you think I am a fussy eater I assure you this is not so. Also portions were quite small. I had lamb on the 3rd night and lamb is a soft meat but this had a hard outer 'crust' as if it had been sliced in advance and then kept hot in an oven or under a lamp. There was a small amount of red cabbage and 2 slices of potato, so not really a good meal. There are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance so the meal deal is not really necessary and I would not use it in future.

If in doubt about anything, then just ask at reception. They are so helpful. They knew we were celebrating my 70th birthday and we found a bottle of champagne in our room when we returned. The bar by the pool is great for snacks

this hotel is both well run & spotlessly clean. the staff are friendly & helpful. the rooms are spacious & views spectacular. i would reccomend this hotel, my wife & i will definately return sometime in the near future.

Beautiful hotel....beautiful accommodation....lovely friendly, helpful staff....great situation with breathtaking views....excellent facilities and pristine cleanliness......thank you to all the lovely staff at Madeira Regency Cliff from two very happy and grateful ladies Helga & Christine....hope to see you again.

We have stayed here 3 times now, the hotel is 3 km out of Funchal but easy walking into and out of town. The hotel will take you into town in the morning and collect you in the evening. The breakfast buffet is exceptional, the evening meals are good value if you use the offers from the hotel but are aimed at the older residents. There is exceptionally good value eating locally.
