What's an NHS COVID Pass

If you’re fully vaccinated with two doses of any approved vaccine, some destinations allow you to enter the country without showing a negative COVID-19 test result. You can check our travel requirements page for more information.

Instead, you’ll be asked to show proof of your vaccination status. An NHS COVID Pass shows your COVID-19 vaccination details (including if you’ve had a booster) or test results – this is your status. This is available for those aged 5 or over who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in England. This is different to an EU Digital COVID Certificate – see more information below.

The NHS COVID Pass is different to an EU Digital COVID Certificate. And if you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, your proof of vaccination process is also different. See more information below.

How to get an NHS COVID Pass

What if I don't live in England?

If you live in Scotland

You can access your COVID status through the free NHS Scotland Status app on a mobile device. You can also request a printed copy of your vaccination status by phoning the COVID-19 Status Helpline on 0808 196 8565, or you can request to print your vaccination status online, by logging in using your unique username and password found on your coronavirus vaccination appointment letter.

Any booster dose will show on your vaccination status, alongside your first and second dose on the COVID Status app, or you can download or request a copy of your updated vaccination status online.

If you printed a copy of your vaccination status before you had your booster jab, you’ll need to request a new one if you need proof of your booster for the destination you’re travelling to.

If you live in Wales

You can access your NHS COVID Pass online and download or print it. It’s recommended you register and use this service at least two weeks before you’re due to travel. Alternatively, call 0300 303 5667 to request a paper COVID Pass – just so you know, it can take up to ten working days to arrive.

Proof of booster vaccination will show up automatically on the digital NHS COVID Pass.

If you printed a copy of your vaccination status before you had your booster jab, you’ll need to request a new one if you need proof of your booster for the destination you’re travelling to.

If you live in Northern Ireland

If you’re travelling from Northern Ireland, you can apply online for proof of full vaccination at least three days before your departure date. When your certificate is ready, you’ll get an email. You can download your certificate directly from your nidirect account or see it on the COVIDCert NI app. If you cannot apply online, you can request a paper certificate using 0300 200 7814. Please note, your business card-sized paper COVID-19 vaccination record card isn’t an acceptable form of vaccine status proof and can’t be used to enter.

To show proof of your booster if you’ve already been issued a vaccination certificate, head to nidirect and click ‘Add booster to certificate’.

What’s the difference between an NHS COVID pass and EU Digital COVID Certificate?

The difference between these is eligibility. An NHS COVID Pass is available for those aged 5 or over who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in England. An EU Digital COVID Certificate is available for EU citizens, and those of Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein, and non-EU nationals living in EU member states.

So as the UK is no longer part of the EU, the EU Digital COVID Certificate isn’t available to most Britons.
