Bumper beaches

Lots of the beaches here show off Blue Flags and emerald waters, with public and private patches to choose from. So the decision is yours – laze on plush loungers while listening to house music or pack your own picnic, roll out your towel and get stuck into a good book. Love water sports? Windsurfing and sailing are big business here too.

Ancient Athens

From the Athens Coast, you could be in the Greek capital in just 30 minutes. Capped by the incredible Acropolis, this ancient gem is rich in history with a modern vibe. When you’ve ticked off the Parthenon and Anafiotika, outstanding shopping and rooftop bars await. A tram connects Athens from Syntagma Square all the way down to Voula, making it super-easy to get into the city.

Atmospheric after dark

Beach bars and bass-filled clubs mean the Athens Coast really comes to life after dark. Whether dancing barefoot on the sand or sipping cocktails by the sea is your style, there’s nightlife for everyone here. Look out for Glyfada and Vouliagmeni – they’re two of the best resorts for a buzzy feel.

Beaches

The beaches along the huge stretch of Athens Coast are a tapestry of biscuity hues, offering sandy stretches and crystalline waters. Serene coves that are barely touched are dotted among livelier stretches that are great for families. Each beach provides a unique setting and the perfect plots to roll out your towel and soak up that Greek sunshine.

Eating and drinking (beaches)

Here, it’s all about al fresco beachfront restaurants and making the most of those sensational sea views as you dine. Mediterranean and Greek favourites fill most menus and you’re in the best place to sample sublime seafood. Local Greek wines, sweet baklava and a glass of punchy ouzo top the experience off perfectly.

Shopping (beaches)

From boutique shops to local street markets, whatever your shopping choice, you can do it in style here. Designer brands can be picked up in Glyfada, but if you’re after some more authentic souvenirs like olive oil soap and evil eye jewellery, make a beeline for Vouliagmeni’s many markets.
