Waltz this way
If baroque architecture enchants you, you’ll be right at home in Austria. Whichever city you’re in, there’s a feeling of grandeur that ripples through the cobbled alleys between ornamental cafés and quaint hotels, make-believe palaces and teal-coloured towers. Thought fairytales were all fiction? Not in Austria.
The sound of Salzburg
Wonderful in winter, spectacular in spring, this Alps-immersed city is a castle-covered classic. As well as being the birthplace of Mozart and the setting of The Sound of Music, this snow-topped stunner is a favourite with skiers the world-over. Team all that with a medieval Old Town, manicured gardens and some marvellous museums and you’re onto a winner.
When in Vienna…
Just when we thought Vienna had reached the epitome of elegance, a glitter dusting of Christmas markets go ahead and prove us wrong. In winter this dazzling city transforms - it may be chilly, but a wander among the twinkling markets is sure to warm your heart. Look out for everything from hand-painted baubles to frost-covered snowglobes.
