Skopelos

Skopelos holidays

Welcome to paradise. Carpeted in pine forest, vineyards, olive groves and orchards, spellbinding Skopelos is largely a sleepy affair, with an authentic Greek panache to each of the peaceful beach resorts dotted around the unspoilt coast. If you're after an island escape where the stresses of daily life melt away, this is it. Venture to the tree-trimmed beaches for tranquil tanning time and don't miss pretty Skopelos Town, the island's beating heart. This is the place to let your hair down, with a buzzy harbourfront and narrow alleyways hiding atmospheric bars and courtyard tavernas.

Panormos

Skiathos’ eastern island cousin, Skopelos, is a looker alright. And its pocket-sized resort of Panormos is no exception.

Skopelos Town

Bewitching Skopelos Town is the island’s beating heart. Arrive at its charming port and whitewashed, terracotta-topped houses spring into view, with green hills contrasting beautifully in the background.

Mamma Mia!

This dinky island was catapulted into stardom when it was hand-picked as the setting for Mamma Mia!. And it’s easy to see why it was chosen – the filming locations truly showcase Skopelos’ beauty. Make a beeline for the tranquil waters of Kastani Beach, before ticking off the clifftop Church of Agios Ioannis Kastri.

A breath of fresh air

Skopelos is famed for its rugged good looks. Dense pine forest blankets more than half the island, making it the greenest in all of Greece. You’ll also find vineyards, orchards and olive groves, creating a lush wonderland to explore. Walking routes wind through the hillsides, passing historic monasteries along the way – Mount Palouki is a great place to try.

Beautiful beaches

The island’s south coast is where you’ll find Skopelos’ best beaches. For bags of atmosphere and dreamy views, Kastani Beach is the place to go. Pine-framed Panormos Beach is just as stunning, with lots of loungers and a few tavernas for lunch on the shore. We’re also big fans of Stafylos Beach, only 5km from Skopelos Town.

Activities

Skopelos is an outdoor lover’s playground. Dedicate a day to exploring spectacular Cape Amarandos – here you can hike, swim and picnic to your heart’s content. There are also lots of boat trips you can take from Skopelos Town’s port, whether around the island itself or to neighbouring Skiathos and Alonissos.  See all activities (1)

Beaches

Skopelos’ signature natural beauty is stamped all around the coast with its string of stunning beaches. The south in particular has lots of spots to choose from, many with loungers to rent and tavernas to tuck into lunch. Mamma Mia! made Kastani Beach a firm favourite, but quieter spots like Velanio Beach and Perivoliou Beach make for serene day trips. See all beaches (7)
