Essential sights include the magnificent Murcia Cathedral, the opulent Real Casino de Murcia (a stunning architectural gem), the Salzillo Museum (dedicated to the famous Baroque sculptor Francisco Salzillo), and a leisurely stroll through the charming Plaza de las Flores.
Murcia can be a good choice for families. It offers a relaxed atmosphere, lovely parks like the Glorieta de España (with its playgrounds), and a few child-friendly museums. For a fun day out, the Terra Natura Murcia wildlife and theme park is just a short drive away.
The ideal times to visit Murcia are during spring and autumn. The weather is pleasantly warm, perfect for sightseeing, and the city is less crowded than in peak summer.
Be sure to sample marineras (a popular tapa featuring a breadstick topped with Russian salad and an anchovy), pastel de carne (a rich savoury meat pie), and various rice dishes, particularly arroz con verduras (rice with vegetables), or arroz caldero (a fish and rice dish from the coast).
