Iceland & Northern Lights city breaks

Embrace the elements in whimsically wonderful Iceland, where you can embark on the experience of a lifetime. With one of our special three or four-night trips in February or March 2019, you can reveal the magic of the Northern Lights tour, which is included in your city break, then relax in the Blue Lagoon, and uncover the culture of cosmopolitan Reykjavík. It’s going to be amazing.
Mother Nature

Mother Nature

Feel at one with nature with a geothermal seawater spa day at the Blue Lagoon, and you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and ready for more sightseeing. If you’re looking to pack in plenty of top attractions, think the Golden Circle tour, which includes Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss, Geysir and Skalholt.

Whether you’re out in the countryside or roaming around the remarkably compact capital of Reykjavík, there’s so much to see and do. Don your woollens and see where waterfalls cascade and icy mountains meet. In the city, hit the shops, feast on the finest foods, and discover gorgeous churches and intriguing, historic museums.

Dig deep into the culture

Dig deep into the culture

In the city of Reykjavík, you’ll stumble across various key landmarks and treasures. Hallgrímskirkja is the Lutheran church with the iconic, imposing height, dominating the skyline. Among a few museums, there’s the Sun Voyager monument, and Perlan. The latter doubles as one of the main must-visits and a critically-acclaimed fine dining restaurant.

What's included?
So you can really make the most of your magical trip to Iceland, these one-off trips are even better than our normal city breaks. That’s because we’re including handy extras like shuttle transfers to and from the airport in Reykjavík, and a three-hour guided tour of the Northern Lights.

Northern Lights tour
Come and witness the breathtaking natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights with a three-hour guided tour that’s included in every one of the trips we’re running. This will be the main event on your city break, and the Aurora Borealis is a bucket-list must. This kaleidoscopic occurrence is caused by particles from the sun interacting with the upper atmosphere above the North Pole. For your best chance to see this rare phenomenon, the expert guides will decide when and where to start the tour, depending on the weather. The need for clear skies also means the tour will start at 9pm.
Golden Circle Tour
Fancy sorting even more sightseeing on your trip? No problem! Just add this top tour when you book your break:
Explore three of Iceland’s most popular attractions: Gullfoss waterfall, the spouting hot springs of Geysir and the national park of Thingvellir, the site of the Viking parliament. This 8-9-hour tour will take you to Fridheimar tomato farm, too!
Blue Lagoon Tour
Explore more by adding this bucket-list heavyweight to your booking too:
Journey to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you’ll visit Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. You’ll have entrance to the lagoon included, with 2.5 hours of time to spend there. Book now to avoid any disappointment – it’s hugely popular!

Must-see sights
The mystifying Northern Lights will enchant you, so get set for a tour to remember. But that’s not it – why not relax in Blue Lagoon’s geothermal spa? With wowing geysers, snow-topped landscapes and pretty villages with the rural fjords, adventure is a go before you even discover the striking capital, Reykjavík.
Food and drink
Cool cafés, traditional eateries and highly-rated restaurants combine around Reykjavík. Lamb stews and fermented shark are two main course favourites, while yogurt-like cheese product Skyr and waffles both are fab for sweet tooths. Enjoy rye bread on the go, and try local tipple brennivín, made from caraway seeds, while checking out the nightlife.
Shopping
We’re not just talking knitted sweaters and kitsch souvenirs – Reykjavík is a shopper’s haven, with boutiques and stores selling clothes and the usual suspects. For a more authentic experience, there’s Kolaportið flea market, where you can haggle, try local delicacies and buy antiques, magazines, books, toys and more.
Getting around
Catching the bus around Iceland’s top spots is your best bet for public transport, where walking isn’t possible. But it’s worth remembering that, when the weather’s heavily snowy, services can take a little longer. There are several bus companies, and you can get your hands on single fares and day passes, too.
