Aqueduct of Nottolini

Aqueduct of Nottolini

It looks like a Roman feat of engineering but the Aqueduct of Nottolini was in fact built in 1823. It solved the problem of contaminated wells by carrying water to Lucca from the mountains south of the city instead. The water flowed through a stone channel supported by 459 arches stretching for over three kilometres.
