Get into the festive spirit with a trip to Malmo’s magical Christmas markets! After landing at Copenhagen Airport, take the short journey across the stunning Öresund Bridge that links Denmark and Sweden. On weekends leading up to Christmas, this city transforms into a winter wonderland so get ready to tuck into oh-so-sweet gingerbread and golden saffron buns, AKA lussekatter – a Swedish holiday favourite. Wander through charming wooden stalls brimming with seasonal delights, from handmade stockings and cosy scarves to snowflake-inspired decorations that twinkle under the winter lights. And of course, it wouldn’t be a visit to Malmo’s Christmas markets without snapping a selfie in front of the glittering Christmas tree – the perfect memento of your festive getaway.
Malmo’s most festive market, Mitt Möllan, is focussed on sustainable shopping, with local artisans and designers coming together each year to show off their crafts. When you get peckish, let the smell of spiced glögg and ginger biscuits lead you to festive, food-stuffed stalls.
Come Christmastime, Malmo’s second biggest square transforms into a magical winter wonderland every weekend, with yuletide photo spots, glittering lights and shopping stalls. Along with food and drinks, you can spot local artists showing off their handmade crafts and art.
Whether you’re planning on cooking up a festive feast or you just want to marvel at all the locally sourced food favourites, this authentic farmer’s market is a must-visit. Expect artisanal breads like knäckebröd, AKA Swedish crispbread, freshly plucked carrots and even pickled herring.
As winter approaches, it’s almost as if a magic wand is waved, as this medieval square transforms into a whimsical playground. Its cobbled floor is flanked by a timbered house, bars and restaurants, and decorated with glinting lights and fragrant pine trees. It doesn’t get much more Christmassy than this.
After all that shopping, you’ll need a festive drink to warm up. Cosy up in one of the local bars and order yourself a piping-hot mug of glögg – a spiced mulled wine with orange zest, dried fruit and spices in.
It can be quite nippy in Malmo over winter, so why not take a break and escape the elements with a visit to one of the city’s museums and galleries? Malmö Museer, Scandinavia's oldest Renaissance castle, boasts a collection that includes old paintings, and a gallery dedicated to Nordic art.

The Malmo Christmas market usually begins in late November and continues until just before Christmas Eve. Specific dates and times may vary slightly each year, so it's always best to check the official Malmo city website before your trip.
The market is often spread across several key locations in central Malmo, with the main festivities usually centred around Stortorget (the main square) and Lilla Torg (the 'little square'). Some smaller markets or festive displays might also appear in other areas.
You can indulge in classic Swedish Christmas delicacies such as pepparkakor (ginger snaps), lussekatter (saffron buns), knäck (toffee), and local chocolates. For drinks, glögg (mulled wine, often served with raisins and almonds) is a must-try.
You can expect to find various stalls offering everything from crafted local goods and Christmas decorations to accessories and traditional Swedish crafts. There are also plenty of food and drink stalls.
