The Vatican Museums are a vast complex of public art and sculpture museums located within Vatican City. They display an immense collection of works accumulated by the Catholic Church and the papacy over centuries, including some of the most famous classical sculptures and Renaissance art in the world.
Generally, the Vatican Museums are open Monday to Saturday, usually from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry at 4:00 PM. They are typically closed on Sundays, with the exception of the last Sunday of each month (when entry is free from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, last entry at 12:30 PM, but expect extreme crowds). It's always best to check the official Vatican Museums website for the most up-to-date schedule and any special closures.
It is highly recommended to book your tickets in advance online via the official Vatican Museums website. This allows you to select a specific entry time and bypass the often very long queues at the entrance. While you can buy tickets on arrival, waiting times can be several hours.
