Current entry requirements

Before travelling to your destination, please check the latest entry requirements as they may differ depending on your: destination, nationality, and your travel document type.

If you aren’t travelling on a full ‘British Citizen’ passport, there might be some different entry requirements. We recommend that all travellers check the latest requirements before travelling, which can be found on the FCDO website

Destination entry requirements

Hurghada

If you’re travelling to Hurghada, you’ll need a visa to enter Egypt. You can buy one pre-travel from the official site: https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/. All e-visa applications must be submitted a minimum of seven days before your arrival and are valid for stays up to three months. You can also get a visa on arrival at one of the approved kiosks within the arrival airport hall, just before reaching immigration. The visa fee at the official kiosk is currently $25 and is payable in cash in US dollars or the equivalent in British Pound Sterling. These visas are valid for up to 30 days. You can save time on arrival by buying your visa from our local partner MTS at their official kiosk – it costs a little more but can be paid for in cash in British Pounds. For the most up-to-date passport and visa information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt/entry-requirements. This information is for people travelling on a full British passport from the UK.

Sharm El Sheikh

If you’re staying for less than 15 days at a resort in Sharm El Sheikh, you don’t need a visa. Instead, you’ll get a free entry permission stamp on arrival. If you plan to travel outside the resorts or stay more than 15 days, you’ll need to get a visa. For the most up-to-date passport and visa information, please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt/entry-requirements. This information is for people travelling on a full British passport from the UK.

EU Entry/Exit System

You might have heard that the European Union introduced a new Entry/Exit System from 12 October 2025. Just to confirm, this won't be implemented in Egypt.
