Like most beaches along the Dubrovnik coast, Banje Beach is primarily a pebble beach. We recommend wearing swim shoes or aqua socks for added comfort when entering the water, as the pebbles can be sharp underfoot. The seabed is a mix of sand and pebble, making the water exceptionally clear and inviting.
Banje Beach is Dubrovnik's most famous central beach, located just a stone's throw from the historic Old Town. Its exact address is Frana Supila 10, placing it directly outside the Ploče Gate, east of the city walls. This prime location offers stunning, uninterrupted views of the Old Town harbour, Lokrum Island, and the Adriatic Sea.
While Banje Beach is popular with all ages, it is worth noting that the depth increases quite quickly off the shore. For very young children, the pebbly entrance and swift depth change may not be ideal. Families often prefer the shallower, sandy-bottomed beaches like Copacabana or Šulić Beach. However, the vibrant atmosphere and facilities can be great for families with older children.
