British travellers do not need a separate visa to visit Tiran Island if arriving by organised tour from Sharm El Sheikh. The island is Egyptian territory and protected as part of a national park, but access is typically managed through licensed tour operators who handle necessary permits and border formalities.
Tiran Island is renowned for its world-class scuba diving, particularly around the four main coral reefs surrounding the island. Snorkelling, glass-bottom boat tours, and sunbathing on pristine sandy beaches are also popular. The island’s clear waters host an array of marine life, including reef sharks, turtles, and vibrant coral gardens.
Currently, there are no accommodation options on Tiran Island. Overnight stays are not permitted as the island is a protected marine sanctuary. Visitors must return to Sharm El Sheikh or nearby resorts the same day. However, the island’s unparalleled diving often makes it worth a full-day trip.
The best time to visit Tiran Island is between March and May or September to November, when sea temperatures are warm, visibility exceeds 30 metres, and crowds are smaller. Summer months can be very hot, while winter offers cooler air but pleasant diving conditions.
