Three beautiful beaches lie in wait beside a walled old town, making Tossa De Mar a delightful pick surrounded by lush countryside. The medieval city of Girona is less than an hour’s drive away, meaning all the sightseeing you could wish for is really accessible.

Sunbathe in view of Tossa’s medieval castle on the Platja Gran. It’s a sweep of deep-sienna-coloured sand connecting the old town, Vila Vella, to a smart modern promenade. The sand is particularly fine and flat, sloping into the shores of the Med – super for taking a dip.
Just behind the Platja Gran, you can wander through the old stone gates and into the romantic Vila Vella, the only fortified medieval town left on the Catalan coast. From the outside it’s all battlements and parapets, and inside it’s a tangle of cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings.
If you’re up for exploring further afield, you’ll be well placed here in Tossa De Mar. The Catalan capital of Barcelona is south, while northwards you can visit the charming fishing village of Cadaqués, the majestic city of Girona, and Salvador Dalí’s birthplace over in Figueres.
