Wherever you choose to travel to these days, some negative COVID-19 tests may be required. So first up, you need to check our travel requirements page for all the latest information. If you do need a test to travel to your destination, we’re here to help below with everything you need to know about the types of tests and how to get them.

How to work out what tests you need

2. See below to find out more detail on types of tests and how to get them.

3. Pre-book what you need to, then look forward to a smooth trip.

Types of COVID-19 tests

Once you’ve checked travel requirements to see which tests you’ll need, you can find out more about the tests themselves below.

Going out

Pre-travel test

What is it?

A nose and/or throat swab. There are different types, including PCR, LAMP and rapid antigen test (RAT), also known as lateral flow. The exact requirements vary by country. You’ll need to buy the test, take it, wait for the outcome, and have evidence of a negative result ahead of your holiday. And the UK Government has advised that you can’t use the free NHS tests, as they don’t provide the appropriate evidence.

Who needs it?

That all depends on where you’re travelling to. Some destinations require a negative COVID-19 test result to enter, but there are often exemptions for fully vaccinated people and young children. You can check the exact requirements of your destination here.

To be “fully vaccinated” you must’ve had your second dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before you’re due to arrive in your destination.

Where can I find it?

Tests are available from numerous private clinics nationwide, in some high-street stores and large pharmacies. Some suppliers also offer home kits that you send to their labs via courier. If you need help finding a testing supplier, we've created a handy list below.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from £14.50.

Finding a testing supplier

When it comes to testing, we know everyone has different preferences. You may be happy to do your tests at home or you might prefer a supervised medical location. The choice is yours, so you can do what’s best for you. To get you started, we’ve created a list of testing suppliers below. As requirements can change, we’d recommend that you don’t start arranging any tests until around seven days before your departure.

The following links will take you to third-party websites. If you choose to buy any of their services, your agreement will be with the testing supplier directly. Just so you know, we’re not responsible for their availability, content, information, timeliness, products or services. Please check the individual terms and conditions and privacy statements.

You’re completely free to shop around and find your own testing supplier(s) – and it’s your responsibility to make sure you’re happy with the buying decisions you make. You must get the correct testing in line with the requirements of governments both in the UK and abroad.

Airport testing

Testing is available at our ten UK airports. Select your departure or return airport below and follow the link to find out more about test types, availability and pricing.

Testing FAQs

When should I arrange my test?

As requirements can change, we’d recommend that you don’t start arranging COVID-19 tests until closer to your time of travel, around seven days before departure.

What does the test include?

Once you’ve followed the link to the supplier's website, you’ll find details about what’s included in your test.

Which countries require a negative test result before arrival?

For all the latest requirements both overseas and returning to the UK, please visit our travel requirements page and select the destination you’re travelling to for all the latest information. It’s best to keep checking the page regularly before you travel, as requirements can change. That’s why we’d recommend that you don’t start arranging COVID-19 tests until closer to your time of travel, around seven days before departure.

Do I need to arrange a test for each person I’m travelling with?

If the country you’re visiting requires a negative test result to travel, every passenger on your booking will need to arrange a test. However, there may be exemptions, such as some countries only requiring a negative test result for adults and children age 12 and over, for example. Please check the travel requirements page page for more information.

Please note, you don’t have to buy a test from any of our third party testing providers – COVID-19 tests are available from other providers.
